World was written by: Doug Mcdonald Department of Chemistry University of Illinois Urbana Ill. 61801 address: mcdonald@uiucuxe Its copyright notice as it appears in the source code is: /* World C Version 1.00 copyright 1987 J.D.McDonald Use as you like for non-commercial purposes, but please leave this note, and document any changes you make as yours */ The source code was acquired from the Usenet comp.source.games archives and ported to the Apple IIgs by: Jason Harper CompuServe: 76703,4222 The only changes made were to apply patches to bring the program up to version 1.01, modify the input routine so that the left-arrow and clear keys function properly, and add a 'Press RETURN to continue' prompt at the end of the game if called from a program selector such as the Finder which may immediately clear the screen, making the final message impossible to read. This program should work on any IIgs with at least 512K of available (not used by the RAM disk) system memory. It is freely distributable, but not to be sold: PDE, BRCC, and other such companies, keep your grubby little hands off of it! Make sure that all three files are kept together if you pass it on: WORLD (program), Q1TEXT.DAT (data), and WORLD.README (this file). Hints: The first thing you should do after running the program for the first time is type HELP, which will give you various instructions and hints. Use of the adverbs 'slowly', 'carefully', or 'quickly' with some commands make make the desired result more likely or safer. SAVE the game frequently. You can still move around after you are dead, but can't accomplish anything. There is only one way to get brought back to life, and only one place you can do it from. Make a map of the game as you go along. It's your only hope.
