Notes about "ALFsongsX.shk" files: This is a collection of several hundred music files for the ALF, an AY-8910 based sound card for the Apple II series. This consists of seven (7) ShrinkIt compressed archives. You can extract each archive onto seven separate self-booting 800K 3.5 floppy disks, which is how I received them, or extract all the music files into one folder on a hardisk (or span these across several 5.25 disks). Also contained in each archive is the "ProDOS ALF Player" by Jimmy Huey, which can be used to play-back these music files on either an Apple IIe or Apple IIGS* equipped with an ALF or compatible sound card (e.g. Phasor, Mockingboard). *This player can actually emulate an ALF/AY-8910 using the IIGS's built-in Ensoniq chip without any physical sound card installed! The results are very close to the real thing but not quite perfect. Mitchell Spector December 2002
