Lode Runner keyboard commands [longish] Newsgroups: comp.emulators.apple2 Date: 1998/04/07 There were a few postings here last month requesting the keyboard commands for Lode Runner & Championship LR. I just found an old copy of this game with a manual at a hamest last weekend, and I didn't see any responses to the original posting, so here you go. I've also included some other useful info excerpted from the manual. These are for the Apple version, but many of these same key commands also work in other versions and other incarnations of LR, including the original Lode Runner. See the end of this post for a note on some differences in the Atari, C64 and IBM versions. Hope someone finds this useful! BTW, the disk that came with the copy I have is apparently bad. If anyone can point me to an IBM version of this game I'd be grateful. -Bryan - SCORING The scoring with CHAMPIONSHIP LODE RUNNER is as follows: Completing a level 2000 points Picking up a gold chest 500 points Trapping an enemy 100 points Enemy dying in a hole 100 points FOR THE APPLE GETTING STARTED After booting, the program automatically begins a self-piaying demonstration ("demo"). Watch it to get a sense of Championship game play. To begin play, press any key or push a joystick button. Move your player or push a joystick button to begin game action. During the Demo (or after a game when logo is on the screen) Press CTRL-E to enter the screen editor. During game play: Press CTRL-@ for an extra man. Press CTRL-^ to advance to the next level. Championship Loderunner Press D at the crack screen for the dox to the game. Reset your computer during the game to see a message on the text screen. SAVE GAME FEATURES In CHAMPIONSHIP LODE RUNNER you may opt to save your position in the game. This can be achieved by typing CTRL-S at the beginning of the level. If you do this, CHAMPIONSHIP LODE RUNNER will display a list of games previously saved. Up to ten separate games can be saved on your CHAMPIONSHIP LJDDE RUNNER disk. If you want to save your progress, follow the prompt that appears at the top of the screen. After typing in a name, hit RETURN to save the disk. The game will return to the demo after allowing you to view the list of saved games and the high score screen. Press the SPACEBAR to start a new game. By typing a name identical to one listed, you can "overwrite' that entry with your own game's status. By following the prompt on the Save Game screen you may also D(elete) previously saved games to make room for a game to be saved with a new name. To resume playing a CHAMPIONSHIP LODE RUNNER game that you have previously saved with a CTRL-S command, enter CTRL-L while in the demo mode. When you do this, a list of games previously saved will appear on the screen. Pick one from the list displayed, type its name and hit RETURN. You will then be allowed to continue that game as if there were no interruption. You will still qualify for high score when you do this. You can restore a game one time without penalty. You will lose one life, however, each time you attempt to restore the game thereafter. - The keys used by the other non-Apple versions of the game are mostly identical. Some systems add a CTRL-Z, which is used to toggle off the somtimes tedious iris-in/out effect when the level starts. The C64 uses RUN/STOP instead of ESC, and +/- to change game speed insead of the arrow keys. Both Atari and the C64 use CTRL-D to toggle the default dig direction (only one button on the stick means you ordinarily must face the direction you want to dig.) The IBM version uses the numeric keypad for directional controls, allows key reassignment with ESC-K, and adds some other commands also accessed via the ESC key. *=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=* * LODE RUNNER EDITOR * *=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=* by Griffin (ui423@freenet.victoria.bc.ca) posted by Philip C. Editor Commands --------------- S : Clear High Score File. C : Clear a certain level. M : Move a certain level. I : Initialize Diskette (to be used for the Lode Runner Editor. It's handy if you have a blank image to use. When in ApplePC, hit F10, then enter the name of the image. I use the filename BLANK.DSK). E : Edit a certain level. P : Play a certain level. ESC cancels any command. When editing levels ------------------- I Ctrl-S : Save the level your working on. J L Ctrl-Q : Quit back to editor menu K 1 = Digable Brick 2 = Solid Brick 3 = Ladder 4 = Rope 5 = Fall-thru brick 6 = End-Level ladder (hidden until you grab the last gold brick.) 7 = Gold Brick 8 = Enemy Robot 9 = Lode Runner 0 = Clear position The only command that I am unaware of is the key combination so you don't get the zoom effect, and the levels appear instantly.
