It will scroll upward only when the list of commands is unusually long. Hold [CONTROL] and press [S] to stop and start scrolling. ____________________________ Game Commands I. STANDARD ACTIONS GO moves you in a particular direction. Depending upon where you are, you can go north. south. east. west. left. right, forward, back, up, down, or across. The first letter of each direction is sufficient. For example, go north and go n are the same. Since some paths curve, and since you are not always facing in the same direction, going the opposite way that you came may not take you back where you were. GOTO takes you directly to another location. Goto must be entered as a single word (no space between go and to ). You can only goto places you have been. LOOK describes your current location in detail. TAKE lets you pick up and carry movable objects. There is a limit, of course, to how much you can carry; but note that you can take more if you scoop up multiple objects at the same time. DROP lets you put down carried objects. If you are lost, you can drop objects to help you figure out where you are. EXAMINE gets further information about objects and people. All movable objects and most of the people you meet can be examined, but only when they are present. Since people move around, it is a good idea to examine them before you do anything else. INVENTORY lists the objects you are carrying. Your current financial status, an evaluation of your health, and what you are wearing are also displayed You can abbreviate inventory as inv. Some of the above actions may not apply in certain circumstances. If there are no movable objects present, for example, you cannot take anything. II. SPECIAL ACTIONS These commands vary greatly depending upon where you are and what you have done so far. They are generally self-explanatory. Usually only the fIrst three or four letters of the first word are required. Keep in mind that most actions have both immediate and delayed effects. The special action nothing causes time to pass, which can be handy if you are waiting for some particular condition to occur. But remember that in Real Life, each minute that passes brings you that much closer to death. III. UTILITY FUNCTIONS HELP asks for assistance. SAVE stores your current position on the disk for later use. You can save as often as you like, but only the last position saved is remembered. LOAD restores the last position saved from the disk. RESTART starts the game over. You must enter the entire word. QUIT ends the game. If you want to play again later, starting where you left off before, save your current position before you quit. Some utility functions may not apply in certain circumstances. You cannot load, for example, if you have never used save.
